Securing the Future: A Private Bank’s Journey to Streamlined Data and Security

Introduction and Background

A UK Private Bank faced challenges in managing data security and their data model efficiently. With a large number of system administrators and a complex sharing model, they struggled to maintain consistent access control, risking both productivity and data security. Additionally, a core banking system migration required realignment of their current custom-built data model to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Project Overview

The primary objectives were to establish a consistent security model and realign the data structure for the core banking integration. The Private Bank chose us for our expertise in Salesforce and financial data solutions to enhance security and prepare for future growth.

Challenges

The Bank faced the following core challenges, which we sought to address through our approach:

Sharing & Security

  • Inconsistent sharing model, risking data misuse.
  • Insufficient access affected user productivity.
  • Too many system administrators, leading to accountability issues.
  • Complex permission management caused onboarding delays.

Data Model Concepts

  • Transitioning core banking systems required a realignment of the Salesforce data model.
  • The custom-built model led to data duplication and reporting inaccuracies.
  • Overnight data sync issues caused inconsistencies in Salesforce records.

Solution

To address the above challenges, we developed a comprehensive strategy focusing on:

Sharing & Security

We developed a strategy to migrate the Bank to a permission set-led model. We provided a comprehensive plan detailing best practices, laying the foundation for a scalable and secure sharing approach in Salesforce.

Data Model Concepts

We recommended realigning the data model with Financial Services Cloud, demonstrating a structure that supports financial account hierarchy, total wealth roll-ups, multiple currencies, and embedded reporting.

Results and Impact

Our solutions led to significant improvements in:

  • Sharing & Security: Our approach led to the creation of an Org Security workstream, where we migrated profiles to permission sets and updated historical components. This positioned the Bank for effective security management as they grow.
  • Data Model Concepts: Our proof-of-concept demo received approval from stakeholders, including the technical board. The next phase will refine details alongside the Avaloq team to ensure a seamless integration.
  • Customer Experience: The Bank valued our clear and collaborative approach, which helped them make informed decisions and lay the foundation for a secure and scalable system.
  • Looking Ahead: We will collaborate with the Avaloq team to refine and implement the integrated data model and security setup for the Bank’s transition in September 2025.

Conclusion

Our solutions for data security and model realignment enabled the Bank to prepare effectively for their Avaloq transition, ensuring they have a scalable, secure, and accurate data system in Salesforce.
